AIDS Dementia & HIV Psychiatry Service (Adahps)

Adahps (AIDS Dementia & HIV Psychiatry Service) is a state-wide service in NSW, Australia that assists in the care and management of people with HIV and complex needs.

Typically, clients may have a diagnosis of AIDS Dementia or a psychiatric illness complicating their HIV infection. Through various management strategies that include education and developing effective partnerships, our service can increase the quality of care that these clients receive.

Adahps History

Adahps was founded in October 1995. In 1996, responsibility for auspicing the service was assumed by two bodies: South Eastern Sydney Area Health Service (South East Health) and Central Sydney Area Health Service (CSAHS).

South East Health was responsible for:

• Developing tertiary services i.e. ADAHPT
• Respite, stepdown and palliative care services
• Mental health inpatient, and ambulatory care
• Co-ordinating the service
