Hospitalisation Rates for children

Hospitalisation Rates for children requiring dental treatment, per 100,000, for children under 5 years of age

The hospitalisation rate for dental caries was 428 per 100,000 population in children aged 0-4 years in NSW in 2005-06.
Hospital separations are reported on the financial year basis. The latest year for which NSW data are available is 2005-06. Numbers for 2005-06 include an estimate of the small number of interstate hospitalisations, data for which are yet unavailable.
In NSW in 2005-06 there were 1822 hospital separations for dental caries (dental caries in principal diagnosis) in children 0-4 years and the rate was 428 per 100,000 population.
There were additional 81 hospital separations with dental caries (dental caries noted as one of the first 5 main diagnoses but not the principal one) in children 0-4 years.
The total rate of hospitalisation for or with dental caries (diagnosis fields 1-5) was 447 per 100,000 population in children 0-4 years in NSW in 2005-06.
Notes:
There were around 50 separations that had a record of dental caries (diagnosis fields 1-5) and hadn't a record of procedure of removal or restoration of teeth (procedure fields 1-5 were checked). There were around 300 separations with a record of removal or restoration of teeth without a record of dental caries (fields 1-5 checked in both instances) in NSW in 2005-06. These two figures do not include estimates for interstate separations.
