World Youth Day - Public Health Update

NSW Health has provided an update on public health investigations involving World Youth Day pilgrims in Sydney.

Since the last report issued at 3pm yesterday, one new investigation has commenced into an outbreak of Influenza affecting two pilgrims at Marist College at Parramatta.

Public health officers have confirmed that the outbreak of viral gastroenteritis at St Therese's School at Denistone, affecting 23 pilgrims, has resolved.

Details of ongoing public health investigations include:

Marist College at Parramatta
o Two pilgrims have been diagnosed with Influenza

Our Lady of Good Counsel School in Forestville
o 10 pilgrims have been diagnosed with Influenza

Thomas Moore School in Campbelltown
o 27 pilgrims have been diagnosed with Influenza

Our Lady of the Peace in Gladesville
o 12 pilgrims have been diagnosed with Influenza

Oakhill College at Castle Hill
o 86 pilgrims have been diagnosed with Influenza

Sydney Olympic Park at Homebush
o 16 pilgrims have been diagnosed with Influenza
o One pilgrim has been diagnosed with chicken pox

NSW Health also confirmed that in the 24 hours to 9am today reporting showed a total of 84 WYD Pilgrims had attended emergency departments for treatment of illnesses and injuries.

This brings the number of people identifying as WYD Pilgrims attending emergency departments to 326 since reporting commenced on 9 July.
