Access to further education and training is essential for nurses and midwives to keep up to date with clinical advances in their areas of expertise and to ensure they deliver excellent standards of evidence-based patient care.
The delivery of person centered care that encompasses the needs of the patient, families and staff is the systemic approach of practice development.
Registered Nurses and Midwives
Further education for registered nurses includes continuing education, postgraduate and other formal award courses that may be offered through TAFE, The College of Nursing, Karitane, Tresillian NSW Midwives Association and universities as well as hospital or Area Health Service clinical specialty courses.
Studies can be undertaken on a full/part-time basis and some are offered by distance and other flexible education models.
Enrolled Nurses
Enrolled nurses may choose to undertake further study with their employing organisation, TAFE, The College of Nursing, Karitane, Tresillian and universities
An enrolled nurse who wishes to become a Registered Nurse may receive credit for qualifications and experience when undertaking an undergraduate nursing degree at university and may also be eligible for undergraduate scholarship funding from the Nursing and Midwifery Office.
