Enrolled Nursing (EN) Course
How to become an ENHow to become an EN
In July this year, the path to becoming an Enrolled Nurse will change from the previous model, where NSW Health employed the trainee, to a model where people are trained before being employed.
From 1 July 2009, a student will study to qualify as an Enrolled Nurse and then apply to work as a qualified Enrolled Nurse in a health facility.
This means that, from 1 July 2009, students will attend a TAFE NSW Institute to gain a qualification before they are employed. Students will still have structured clinical placements in hospitals and other Health facilities organised as part of their training.
200 new fully funded scholarships for trainee Enrolled Nurses will be available through TAFE NSW Institutes in July this year.
A further 200 scholarship places will be available in January 2010, 50 of which will be targeted to newly arrived immigrants who have appropriate English language skills.
TAFE NSW Institutes are now ready to accept applications for the first 200 scholarship places. There will be a structured application process for these scholarships.
Information on entry requirements and scholarship application forms is available from each TAFE Institute.
Where there is demand, TAFE NSW will continue to deliver commercial training, and training for those students working in the private health sector. These programs will have different arrangements, negotiated locally. No scholarships are currently available for these programs.
