Recruiting Now
Nursing and midwifery in the New South Wales public health system offers excellent pay, job security and flexible working hours and conditions. We encourage you to come and see for yourself. We are currently recruiting for nursing and midwifery positions. Employment is available in metropolitan and rural locations in midwifery and nursing clinical areas, such as generalist (rural locations), intensive care, emergency, operating suite and mental health. The NSW Department of Health has contracts with these five organisations for the recruitment of nurses and midwives from overseas to work in NSW public hospitals:
Am I eligible?
To be eligible for employment as a nurse or midwife in New South Wales you must be registered with the Nurses and Midwives Board (NMB), telephone +61 2 9219 0222. The NMB will assess overseas nursing and midwifery qualifications for eligibility for registration in NSW. Hospitals require evidence of current registration as a nurse or midwife in New South Wales before they make a job offer.
Overseas nurses and midwives (with the exception of those holding New Zealand passports) must also hold a visa that permits work. The Department of Immigration and Citizenship provides information about entry to Australia. The NSW Department of Health may be able to assist with sponsorship for employment in a NSW public hospital.
How Much Will I be Paid?
New South Wales now has the highest paid nurses in Australia.
Salary rates are determined by years of experience with increases each year up to the eighth year of experience for registered nurses and midwives and fifth year of experience for enrolled nurses.
Evidence confirming your experience will be required before your salary rate is determined.
