Initiatives and projects

  • Essentials of Care
    program provides nurses and other health professionals with a method to explore and understand current clinical practice and practice environments and to develop ways to further enhance them.

  • "take the lead"
    project to facilitate the role of the Nursing/Midwife Unit Manager in the provision of highly co-ordinated care at the unit level and thereby improve the patient journey and the patient and carer experiences.

  • Transition to Specialty Nursing
    development of transition programs to provide a structure for the development of nursing practice in emergency departments (EDs) or intensive care units (ICUs).

  • Practice Development
    a central introductory point for NSW health professionals to access information and resources relevant to practice development.

  • Modelling of Care
    a four year project to assist clinical nurses to: explore and develop innovative models of nursing care delivery and organisation that would facilitate best clinical practice; and develop new and emerging roles and partnerships within nursing and health care.

  • Aboriginal nursing and midwifery strategy
    developed to increase the number of Aboriginal nurses and midwives in rural and remote NSW, and to improve career development opportunities for Aboriginal employees working in the public health system.

  • Launch of Drug and Alcohol Clinical Guidelines
    assist nurses and midwives to identify patients at risk of, or experiencing, problems associated with substance use.

  • EN Critical Care Units
    project to evaluate the potential for a role for enrolled nurses in intensive care units (ICU) in NSW.

  • EN Perioperative Practice program
    part of the Nursing and Midwifery Office's plan to facilitate enrolled nurses functioning to their full potential within their scope of practice.
