Nurse Audiometrists are registered nurses who have undertaken post graduate training in Nursing Audiometry studies. Provide full hearing assessments for people for all ages (this will vary depending on location). Nurse Audiometrists provide the link in hearing health services between primary hearing screening and tertiary referral services. As well as hearing assessments, Nurse Audiometrists are involved in case management, referral and liaison with a range of organisations, early identification of hearing disorders, and hearing health promotion relevant to the area in which they work, eg. rural and metropolitan. They are involved in health promotion, community education and development, undertake industrial hearing tests and associated education and also mentor students training in nursing audiometry. Many Nurse Audiometrists are involved in SWISH, either as Area Coordinators, or screeners.
