MH Week

About the Grants

The theme of Multicultural Health Week 2022 is cancer screening. Small grants of up to $1,500 are being offered to local health districts and non-government/community organisations to support community engagement activities with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, focussing on increasing knowledge of and confidence in participating in cancer screening.

Successful grant recipients will conduct community engagement activities with the support of bilingual health professionals and/or trained bilingual community educators (BCE) that focus on the three national screening programs: National Bowel Cancer Screening Program; BreastScreen Australia Program; and National Cervical Screening program

It is important that a health professional or a trained BCE is present at the activity to ensure accurate delivery of information to the community and appropriate referral of community members to health services. The NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) can assist in linking you with an appropriate person if required.

Community engagement activities must include dissemination of information about all three programs but may include an emphasis on one or more of the above programs.

The Cancer Institute NSW (CINSW) resource, What is Cancer Screening? combines information on all three programs and is currently available in 23 languages with additional languages to be added in coming months.

Translated educational resources produced by CINSW are also available to support these activities:

It is expected that community engagement activities will be conducted in June to September 2022, with evaluation forms provided to be completed by participants where practical. Successful grant recipients must submit an Activity Evaluation Report using the template provided by the NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) by Monday 24 October 2022.
