Multicultural Health Week 2023 Small Grants Program

Application are closed now.

About the Grants

The theme of Multicultural Health Week (MHW) 2023 is promoting physical activity with the tagline of “Celebrate culture through movement - Every move counts”.

Small grants of up to $2,000 are being offered to local health districts and community organisations to support community engagement activities or events with culturally and linguistically diverse communities, focussing on encouraging and promoting any form of physical activity (e.g., yoga, dancing, dance, bike riding, walking), emphasising that every move counts and contributes to overall health and wellbeing.

Eligibility criteria for the grants:

  • The lead organisation must be a local health district within NSW Health or a community organisation.
  • The activity or event must include some physical activity for participants.
  • The activity or event promotional materials/flyers must include the MHW 2023 branding.
  • The activity or event must include dissemination of MHW 2023 resources (i.e., factsheets, poster)

Requirements of activities and events:

We request that seventy-five per cent (75%) or more of the food and drink offered is healthy.  Some suggestions to help you achieve this:

  • Swap sugary drinks (such as soft drinks) for healthier alternatives (such as water, tea, coffee, fruit juice that is 99% fruit)
  • Swap high fat, high sugar, high salt foods (such as fried foods, pastries) for healthier alternatives foods (such as wraps, salads, vegetable-based dishes, fruit)
  • Offer smaller portion sizes

Successful grant recipients will conduct the community engagement activities between September and December 2023.

We request that a photo of the activity/event is captured which can be shared on the MHW 2023 communication channels, and that an evaluation form is completed by participants of the activity/event where possible.

Successful grant recipients must submit a brief Activity Evaluation Report (2 pages) after the activity/event using the template provided by the MHW 2023 project team by 15 December 2023.

Successful grant recipients will need to invoice NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service in order to receive payment via EFT. If successful in securing a grant, the lead organisation will hold primary responsibility for the delivery and reporting requirements.
