Multicultural Health Communication Awards 2021

Welcome to the Spring edition of Polyglot. The NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) is pleased to announce the finalists for this year's Multicultural Health Communication Awards.

The finalist list features outstanding multilingual health resources and projects in NSW.

The online Awards presentation ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday 8 December at 11am. Register to attend.

Community Leader COVID-19 Vaccination Videos

COVID-19 Vaccination video messages featuring community leaders are available to share for Amharic, Arabic, Bangla, English, Ezidi, Filipino, Fijian, Fijian-Hindi, Htjaru, Macedonian, Karenni, Kinyamulenge, Niuean, Samoan, Sinhalese, Somali, Sudanese, Tamil, Telugu, and Tongan communities.

MHCS would like to thank community leaders and community organisations for their collaborations on these videos. We would also like to thank NSW Ministry of Health and Multicultural NSW for their support.

Mental Health and Wellbeing CALD Resources

The Transcultural Mental Health Centre has provided mental health and wellbeing resources in multiple languages from the Australian Government Department of Health, NSW Health, MHCS, Beyond Blue, Embrace Multicultural Mental Health, Emerging Minds, Red Cross and This Way Up.

EnCOMPASS: Multicultural Aged Care Connector

The EnCOMPASS: Multicultural Aged Care Connector program is a partnership between FECCA and local community organisations to provide navigational support to older people of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds and their communities to access the aged care system and other supports.

Breast Health and Breast Screening Flipchart

This translated flipchart produced by the Cancer Institute NSW provides information on breast cancer and breast screening. Available in Arabic, Chinese Simplified, English, Greek, Italian, Korean, Spanish, and Vietnamese.

Formaldehyde Workplace Injury Prevention

Translated factsheets about formaldehyde are available from Safe Work NSW. This resource outlines ways to reduce the risks of exposure and illness when working with formaldehyde, a hazardous chemical. Factsheets are available in Arabic, English, Chinese Simplified, and Vietnamese.

Training Opportunities and Professional Development

Ongoing 2021: Australian Multicultural Health Collaborative facilitated by FECCA aims to achieve better health outcomes for Australians from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. 2 Nov 2021: Caring Through Crisis: COVID-19. Carers NSW is holding practical, interactive workshops for carers to reflect on ways to stay safe, focus on health, wellbeing and self-care during COVID-19. Register here.

7 Nov 2021: Embrace Multicultural Mental Health Project by Mental Health Australia, FECCA and NEDA is inviting applicants to increase the accessibility of mental health services, reduce stigma and improve information distribution across Australia’s multicultural communities. Apply here.

17 Nov 2021: Child and Young People Safety, Welfare and Wellbeing Forum 2021 by The Northern Sydney Child Protection Service. A virtual conference to provide support service information for vulnerable children, young people and families in NSLHD. Register here.

23 Feb 2022: Sutherland Shire Loneliness Forum with experts Dr Michelle Lim and Ros Knight will provide a practical workshop for community services to address loneliness. Register here.
